Summary/Abstract: The pollution of water resources is a civilizational problem, the urgency of which will increase as climate change progresses. Today we have a problem with water not only with quantitative, but also in qualitative point of view. This was the main reason for us to focus our attention on this environmental problem. The focus of this paper was to provide theoretical and practical information for integrating the legislative-implementation process on the regional level in the context of strengthening the protection of water resources. In the first part of our study, we explored the water pollution problem through the lens of European competences and selected legislations. The same process was chosen for the analysis of water protection in joined member states of the integration grouping which is Slovakia and the Czech Republic. In the research part we focused on assessing the degree of implementation of European measures in the issue of water resource protection by chosen regional actors of water politics in Slovakia and the Czech Republic, while identifying deficiency arising in this process. This research obtained the data using open questionnaire, through which we addressed the actors that were responsible for the implementation of the adopted decisions into practice. Subsequently, we used a comparative method to evaluate the current state and protection level of drinking water in the compared regions.
