Summary/Abstract: This study utilizes Albert Camus's L'Étranger and Ousmane Sembene's Le docker noir to explore the perception of the Other when they are ethnically or morally distinct from the majority. Employing a comparative method, this analysis deliberately avoids suggesting a panacea for overcoming the aversion the Other might elicit. The central thesis posits that these novels confront and critique extreme essentialist views. Through the depiction of characters marginalized by judicial processes, Camus and Sembene provoke reflection on the psycho-sociological dynamics driving ostracization, drawing on concepts from the Christian notion of atonement to enrich their examination.
