Summary/Abstract: This paper uses the example of British director Neil Jordan's The Crying Game to examine some aspects of and options for building the identity of film characters, primarily their sexual identity. By analysing Jordan's attitude toward prejudices and myths, it also examines the possibilities of deconstructing these by presenting various kinds of discrimination and stigmatisation. These areprimarily nationalism and homophobia, but also include racism and sexism.
