Summary/Abstract: This paper deals with the relationship between partners, with the distribution of roles in contemporary family in the process of bringing up children and in performing the housework. It shows that these roles have been clearly determined, segregated and persevering. The roles of the mother and father have largely been determined and experienced in the traditional way. The role of the mother has been defined through the role of the housewife and the person who sacrifices herself for the benefit of the children and the family. The role of the father has also been largely defined through the role of the breadwinner and the protector of the family. Evidently, there is a difference in the involvement of spouses in household duties. It is reflected in the fact that the woman, that is to say the mother, bears to much larger extent the burden as far as household and parenthood duties are concerned. Parenthood is sexually determined since it consists of two worlds: one is the world of nature or maternity and the other is the world of paternity or the world of men that unfolds as the world of culture. This paper entirely confirms hypotheses about the patriarchal system of relationships between partners within the family as well as the difficult position of the woman in it. Running the household and taking care of the family is still the woman’s problem, which makes her overburdened in everyday life.
