Summary/Abstract: We examine the notion of surveillance in Plautus’s plays, when watching over someone (lat. obseruatio, in the general sense) takes the form of close watch, spying and voyeurism, and by doing so, linking it with transgression. Thus, the actual transgressor is often spied on, rather than being the spying character.
