Summary/Abstract: This is a memoir of František Fantl, a Czech Jew who survived the Holocaust and the concentration camps of Terezín, Auschwitz, and Kaufering. He describes his childhood in Brno, his family background, his experiences of anti-Semitism, deportation, and imprisonment, his liberation by the American army, and his post-war life in Czechoslovakia and England. He reflects on the loss of his parents and sister, his decision to join the Communist Party, and his regrets and hopes for the future.
