Summary/Abstract: The Roman dotal system was constantly evolving, but the most radical transformation occurred in the time of Justinian. The Emperor introduced, through several laws, a series of real guarantees for the return of the dowry that surprises by the breadth of the rights and privileges granted in favor of married women, which earned him the qualification of legislator uxorius. In this paper we will analyze the three constitutions that include the imperial reform in dotal matters and the subsequent evolution of these measures to ensure the restitution of the dowry in Spanish historical law.
