Summary/Abstract: The role of women in credit relations greatly increased with the development of Roman society in the imperial period. The main evidence for this claim is the adoption of the Senatusconsultum Velleianum in the middle of the 1st century AD. This legal monument provides valuable information about the legal status of women and their involvement in complex legal relations, concerning legal securities for the debt of third parties.This article focuses on the reasons that led to the adoption of this senatusconsultum and the implications it had for the legal sphere of women in Ancient Rome.
