Our Work: Looking Back and Forward

Summary/Abstract: Last year, when the whole mankind recalled the fortieth anniversary of the end of the greatest and most destructive war in the history of the world, we took stock of the work of the State Jewish Museum in Prague and its publication activities, represented primarily by the journal Judaica Bohemiae. We work mostly in the field of history, and when considering our work, we have realized again that history is living only if we find in it some lesson for the present and the future. When assessing the results of our work, we considered both the activities of the Museum and the publishing of this journal which is inseparably connected with the former. It is this very journal which, apart from permanent and seasonal exhibitions, forms a link between the Museum and its visitors and all those who are interested in the history and the present of the State Jewish Museum and the Jewish community in Prague, all those who are interested in the artistic monuments of the past, and all those who do not forget the hard reality and cruelty of the last war — the period of the Holocaust.
