Summary/Abstract: In this paper we addressed the issue of the inclusion of music folklore as an important discipline of folk culture in the subject “Music Art” within the reformed high school education in the Republic of North Macedonia, these last two decades. We analyzed the following: the role of music folklore in strengthening students’ sensitivity to cultural identity, encouraging them to develop sensitivity to traditional music; the number of lessons intended for the chapter “Music folklore” in the first and second year; the structure and content of teaching units; the selected examples; students’ interest in this discipline; the place of folk music, according to them, in the modern world; the need for a more serious approach to music folklore by all subjects involved in the educational process; the necessity of increasing the number of lessons from the subject “Music Art” and thus also the number of lessons from the chapter “Music Folklore”; the interest of teachers in the subject “Music Art” for the development of additional lessons in the field of music folklore; the need of students to organize various projects (research of folk music via the Internet, field research of traditional music, participation in cultural-artistic societies, visiting festivals); correlations of music folklore with other educational areas; comparisons with the curricula and programs of the respective institutions of the surrounding countries, etc. In this paper, we also presented some results of a survey conducted with students from the secondary school “Kiril Pejčinović” in Tetovo regarding various aspects of the field of music folklore.
