Summary/Abstract: A recollection of the first acquaintance with Rescue (1942), a volume of poems by Czesław Miłosz, testifying to the fact that its author was a poet of tenderness and ultimate lyricism. Miłosz wished to be regarded as a “philosophical poet” and certainly was a poet of the intellect.
