Summary/Abstract: The article explores the relationship between New-Age beliefs, religiosity and the traditionalist value orientation on a student sample in three European environments (Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox and Islamic samples) and in an American environment (Protestant sample). An exploratory factor analysis was employed to confirm the appropriateness of a New-Age scale following Heelas (1996b) and Lavrič (2002; 2005). In the three European samples, a statistically significant positive correlation was found between religiosity and New-Age beliefs. The correlation between traditionalism and religiosity was positive in all four samples, even after controlling for socio-demographic variables. Our findings indicate that New Age beliefs are most strongly embraced by religious and traditionally oriented people. The results do not replicate the findings of Houtman and Aupers (2007).
