Summary/Abstract: At the end of the 19th century, the appearance of Gavriil Musicescu (1847-1903) in the musical landscape was a providential one, in the sense that it raised the compositional and interpretive level of Romanian choral music, laying the foundations for new creative openings, harnessed in the 20th century. Among the choral creations of Gavriil Musicescu, a special place is occupied by the 12 Melodii Naționale, harmonized and arranged for mixed choir and piano, published in 1889. Gavriil Musicescu's choral compositions prove his concern for the collection of folklore from the natural environment, namely the Romanian village. The choral work Resai lună emphasizes the value of the folkloric musical thread, which in time became an inexhaustible source of inspiration for Romanian composers, through which they proved their originality compared to other European composers. This creation opens wide the way to modal harmony and to the exploitation of Romanian musical folklore in choral creations.
