Summary/Abstract: The article examines the role of rose production in building social ties in a small Bulgarian village. I argue that the specificity of rose production, namely the need to mobilize a lot of labour in a short time, leads to the construction of a system of exchange of services and lasting mutual dependencies between people of different generations, classes and ethnic groups in the region.
