Summary/Abstract: Vlastimil Kybal is one of the few Czech historians who were permanently interested in the foreign historiography at the beginning of the 20th century. Due to his many stays in foreign archives (Rome, Simancas), at universities (Paris, Bonn) and due to his participation in two international congresses of historians (Berlin, London), Kybal had an unique opportunity to meet many Italien, French, German etc. historians and, above all, to comprehend the specific character of their national historiography. In Kybal’s appreciation of the French and British model of historiography one can recognize that he prefers this model to the German one. Kybal’s essential articles on the French historical method let Czech historians know more about the historiography, which occupied one of the leading positions during 20th century, bringing forth new methodological inspirations. In Kybal’s sympathies with French and British historiography we can also see the efforts of some followers of the so called Historical School of Jaroslav Goll to cross the horizon of the positivistic methodology traditionally associated with the German model.
