Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on Yuri Bondarev’s representation of the Second World War in his novel Hot Snow (1970). As part of the so-called “Lieutenants’ prose” of the Thaw period, the novel displays some key features: psychological perspective, deheroization and naturalistic details. Bondarev’s war prose was concerned with the soldier’s narrow perspective on war, revealing deheroicized details of the daily life in the war trenches. Our paper offers an analysis of the spatial representation and temporal perception in war, also exploring the image of the enemy and the hypostases and perceptions of death.
