Ethical Dimensions of Supervision in Community Social Work

Summary/Abstract: The supervision process of community social services for people with chronic illnesses, beyond an exchange of information between professionals in different power relations, should be developed on a formal basis, to be conducted under a partnership between the intervention multidisciplinary team, the supervisor and community on whose contribution the intervention is based, in accordance with the requirements of the field in which the supervision takes place and on a specific ethics which has in center the value of personal and social autonomy of recipients of community-based rehabilitation services. The supervisor supports and increases motivation of the supervised, developing an efficient work environment, following the highest professional and ethical standards of intervention, and acts based on recognized principles and applicable within professional activity of specialists. The article's purpose is to present the ethical dimensions of social services supervision, as well as presenting a set of principles of good practice in the field which through the transforming process of supervision, they become principles of ethical supervision in the context of reporting to the value of respect and strengthen the client’s autonomy and the specific of informed consent of this category of persons and its particularities within social services.
