Summary/Abstract: Due to the economic crisis, France was forced to expel foreigners, including Poles, to protect the domestic market and provide its citizens with employment opportunities. Mass redundancies led to the re-emigration of Poles from France to their homeland. The situation in Poland was difficult at that time. Re-emigrants were characterized by different financial status, and most of them counted on state aid. Some of them had left-winged and communist views. More than 117 000 people returned from France in 1931–1935, and 18 286 Poles returned between January and July of 1936. Most of them returned to the following five voivodeships: Łódź, Lviv, Kraków, Kielce, and Poznań.
