Summary/Abstract: With the integration of the lands of the former Prussian partition into the Republic of Poland, the former Prussian institutions, including the courts, were also taken over. Their organisation and functioning, therefore, had to be adapted to the new conditions. The same situation was to be found with land registers, the keeping of which was entrusted to county courts, within which mortgage departments were established as counterparts of Prussian land registry offices. The article presents the office procedures used to prepare land books and records during the first period of the Polish judiciary. The article is based on analysing legal acts and archival materials produced by these courts.
