Summary/Abstract: In the second half of the 1930s, the governments of Poland and the Japanese Empire decided to establish embassies in both countries. The first Polish ambassador to Tokyo was Tadeusz Romer (1894–1978) – an experienced diplomat. A trip to the Far East was a serious challenge for the ambassador and his family. Zofia Romer, the ambassador’s wife, decided to note her travel impressions in a diary. In its pages, she tells stories – from the moment they received word of Romer’s nomination, until reaching Japan. Zofia included original photos and source documents in the diary. The manuscript comes from the Romer family archive in Canada. This story from 1937 has never been published before.
