Summary/Abstract: This article analyzes the anthroponyms in modern Russian fantasy. The authors discuss in detail the anthroponymical system, which is one of the main ways to create a fantastic world. The subject matter includes Slavic names in the cycle of novels by Maria Semenova about Volkodav and names in the novel of Mikhail Uspensky There where we are not. A comparison of the anthroponymical differences allows us to talk about their dependence on the specific genre in the novels. Names in the Semenova’s works are real Slavic anthroponyms fixed in the dictionaries. Their function is to designate a character belonging to a specific group and to emphasize other distinguishing features of characters. Names in the Uspensky’s works make a comic effect and indicate the literary game with a reader.
