Summary/Abstract: This text was read by Luben Botuscharov on December 10, 2015 during the Anniversary round Table “Ethnomusicology Between Two Centuries”, organized by the “Ethnomusicology and Ethnochoreology” Section at the institute of Ethnology and Folklore Studies with Ethnographic Museum – BAS and was dedicated to the anniversaries of Nikolay Kaufman, ruzha Neikova, and Natalia rashkova. While we were planning our thematic block to celebrate his own 85th birthday and approached him to submit his article, he chose precisely this one from among his many yet unpublished materials. The paper presents (in the author’s typical scientifically-styled synthesized form) his stance on the problems related to defining the subject fields of scientific disciplines, such as ethnomusicology, musical anthropology, and musical folkloristics – both from a historical perspective and as it is today in Bulgaria.
