Summary/Abstract: Work on the current Bulgarian Musicology Journal issue of 2024 coincided with the 70th anniversary of Prof. D.Sc. Elisaveta Valchinova-Chendova. Additionally, this marks the first booklet in seventeen years where she is not the Editor-in-Chief of the journal. Both occasions not only suggest but also demand that we look back with gratitude, recognizing that Elisaveta Valchinova-Chendova represents а whole era in the journal’s history, the significance of which we have yet to grasp and see how her broad scientific perspectives, her presence in the musicological community, and her pursuits within it have shaped the current image of the Bulgarian Musicology Journal. This article attempts to trace these three thematic lines in parallel. The first one offers a presentation of Prof. Valchinova’s scientific contributions and achievements related both to Bulgarian music history from the middle of the 19th century to the present day and also to conceptual studies on composers’ creativity from the last decades. The second line addresses Prof. Valchinova’s presence in the musicological community as a custodian of continuity between generations in Bulgarian musicology and as a mediator between scientists from various scientific trends, specialities, and present-day institutions. The third line examines how the first two lines reflect on her work as Editor-in-Chief of the Bulgarian Musicology Journal – under her guidance it became a platform for extensive scientific dialogue between scholars from a variety of institutions and national traditions, provoking numerous scientific discussions through its thematic issues. Prof. Valchinova’s ability to balance tolerance for diverse research approaches with a high demand for scientific rigour has cemented the Bulgarian Musicology Journal’s position as a leading periodical in Bulgarian musicology.
