Summary/Abstract: The article traces and analyzes certain contemporary transformations of a musical sample as part of a regional tradition. The song “Kalesh Kate”, created as a variant of a folk prototype, goes through the specifics of the two-voice male singing from Southwestern Bulgaria (in the repertoire of the “Male Folk Group” from the village of Sklave) and subsequently gains popularity through modern distribution networks. The given example becomes a musical accompaniment and provides the titles for various authorial round dances as a modern interpretation of folk dance patterns. it has been presented at seminars in Bulgaria and abroad – it is also part of dance schools’ repertoire. Following its widespread dissemination, it returns to Southwestern Bulgaria in a new form, performed by ensembles and clubs from the region.
