Summary/Abstract: Political extremism endangers the highest democratic values of society and often its national and territorial security. Each state defends itself from this by legal means which is regulated by the European Convention and, in Serbia, by the Public Information Act and Criminal Code. The author discusses verbal political terrorism and terrorism as a criminal offence. The former is, as instigator, also a frequent co-perpetrator of the latter. The final part of the text points out that in the last fifteen years in Serbia the criminal offences of political terrorism were not sanctioned due to the fact that the highest stakeholders of power indulged in political extremism. Only in the last few years did the trials for the gravest form of these criminal offences begin. In order to fully sanction all forms of political terrorism the judiciary must be independent and the political environment must be healthy.
