Summary/Abstract: The author interprets political extremism from its psychological aspect. In the psychological literature all forms of political extremism have the same psychological bases, whether it concerns fascism, communism or religious fundamentalism. The classical writer of Serbian ethno-psychology Vladimir Dvornikovic found within the Serbian nation a psychological tendency towards extremism which was confirmed by empirical research on authoritarianism of Rot and Havelka in 1973. In the main part of the text the author gives a sketch of the psychological profile of political extremists. This profile is characterised by the sense of frustration, hate of marginal and unprotected social groups, obedience to authority, repressed feeling of inferiority, lack of tolerance, fanaticism, hypertrophied sense of group identity, dogmatism, a Manichean picture of the world and the tendency towards stereotypes. A personality of this profile often finds him or herself in extreme political parties and movements.
