Summary/Abstract: Collecting and presentation of material objects is one of the key activities of the Ethnographic Museum. Systematic grouping of museum objects acquired by gift, purchase, during field research, etc. may be traced back to the founding of the Museum in 1901. In the second half of the 20th century, after 80 years of existence, the Ethnographic Museum introduced the practice of exhibitions presenting to the public the new objects procured within a certain period of time, at first primarily through gifts and later also through purchase acquisition. This way of presentation enables visitors and the general public to get acquainted with the items stored in the collections, the methods of item acquisition, as well as donors, who are an important factor in developing collections and collecting items, although each year a number the museum objects arrives at the Museum as gifts. This is one of the ways in which they are shown gratitude for their selfless participation in preservation of cultural heritage.
