Summary/Abstract: Xerex I (in Greek) (Khșayareș, in Persian), son of Darius the Great, was born around 520 - 518 BC. and died in August 465 BC, aged about 53 - 55.He ruled over 127 provinces (or satrapies), from India to Ethiopia.He was emperor of the Persian Empire for 21 years, from October 486 (from the death of his father, Darius I, assassinated at age 55) until August 465 BC.Xerex had a reputation for religious tolerance, allowing conquered nations to practice their own religion and customs, cross-cultural interaction between Jews and Persians being evident in the books of the Bible called Ezra, Nehemiah and Esther.
