Summary/Abstract: In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, in the wake of the Galilean 'revolution', an intense debate on the language to be used in scientific communication took place in Italian culture. The paper intends to propose a comparative examination of the different positions taken by some intellectuals, divided between the world of literature and the world of science, and moved by different cultural motivations.
