Summary/Abstract: The characters in Caragiale's works serve as representations of the various types of people we encounter in our everyday life, in different situations. For a better understanding of the needs of the characters, I thought that it is necessary to observe them, maybe recalling them from memories, but I focused on analyzing the human lifestyle, with a focus on contrasting the personalities created with such accuracy by Ion Luca Caragiale with those found today. This theme constitutes, moreover, the personal necessity to answer my question: has Caragiale's man, the humbug, found alternatives to overcome the condition of life in today's society? Or has he remained a prisoner of his own limits, of his own illusion? If in his four comedies we put up with themes as the fight for political power, relationships based on social or political interests, the differences between social classes, ambition, betrayal, adultery, manipulation in and out of love, opportunism, lies, then the only way to sweeten the already complicated situations is to satirize man's attempts at his inability to change anything. Moreover, the performances staged in theater institutions aim not only to pay tribute to a great writer, but also to create a manifesto in order to raise awareness of social, political or educational crises through the artistic act.
