Summary/Abstract: The rule of law cannot be conceived outside of democracy and political pluralism. Democracy, in fact, designates the political order and the way the political system works in which the right of the people to govern themselves is realized. Today, democracies and the rule of law are being battered by various crises, and despite the imperfections, still democracy remains, in the current context, the best way to conduct the public affairs of a society. The fragility of democracy and law constitutes a danger to the existence of the rule of law and to the existence of fundamental human rights. Representative democracy is the most widely approved. The lack of trust in public institutions creates fertile ground for leaders of populist movements, who take advantage to reject any action for democracy and human rights.
