Summary/Abstract: In critical periods in the history of the Romanian people, their struggle to preserve their national identity proved to be a continuum, a value axis from which no generation of Romanians abandoned. The different strategies developed to achieve the goal represented by the realization of the Romanian unitary state surprise with the attitudinal-behavioral constant, the depth of the patriotic feeling, of the consciousness of nation and country. Among the institutions that have been involved in preserving the identity of the Romanians in Transylvania, the Church has a place of honor. The efforts supported directly, but also indirectly, respectively through the confessional press by the Orthodox and the Greek Catholic Church had a significant contribution to the awareness of the nationality of the Romanians in Transylvania occupied during the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
