Summary/Abstract: The text concerns the analysis of the words “hasiok” and “hasioki” in two interdependent meanings. The more common one, characteristic of the Silesian dialect, is a regional synonym for garbage can, including a waste dump found in industrial regions. In the second meaning, characteristic of the Andrychów area neighboring Silesia, “hasioki” is a word without a singular number, denoting ether and its solution, distributed illegally for consumption purposes. In the interwar years, drinking ether became a dangerous and legally stigmatized addiction.
