Summary/Abstract: The absence of a unified key in the decipherment of the so-called “old” neumatic intonation (before the last reform at the beginning of the nineteenth century) is due primarily to its very nature. The intrinsic properties of the neumatic script are shown in the work by comparing the stenographic writings of the selected sticherons Germanos Neon Patrons (manuscript EBE 975, 18th century), the “analitic” transcription of the same written by CHOURMOUSIOS CHARTOPH YLAX (manuscript EBE MпT 747- 750) and the interpretation of the contemporary church singers, who additionally melodically decorated Chourmousio's melismatic script.
