Summary/Abstract: The use of behavioural methods in children and students with autism spectrum disorders has positive effects on communication, social, play and academic skills, as well as on the skills needed for self-care and activities of daily living. In addition, they reduce problem behaviours that may result either from the deficits of the disorder itself and problems in the above areas, or from other causes, such as problems with sensory processing of stimuli in the environment. Problem behaviour can disrupt the educational process, prevent an individual from acquiring new skills and ultimately affect quality of life. The aim of this article was to describe the different causes of problem behaviour, as well as the manifestations themselves or methods that can be used in the education of children and students with autism spectrum disorders to eliminate problem behaviour.
