THE CULTURAL ASPECT OF BORDER SECURITIZATION

Summary/Abstract: Sealing, enhancing security, securitization of the state border is a strategic andundisputed task at the level of system analysis. However, the inclusion of the culturalfactor problematizes the issue, especially in the case of borders drawn in an arbitraryand repressive manner against the local population. An example of the apt integrationof the cultural factor into the framework of strategic analysis is provided by the 2020National Security Strategy of the Republic of Poland. In particular, attention is paid tothe belt of dense Polish settlement, from Podlachia to the vicinity of Dyneburg on theDvina River in Latvian Latgale, through the middle of which the eastern border of theEuropean Union now runs. Pointing to the necessity of adopting a definition of thenation as a cultural community, the author draws attention to the actions of stateauthorities, which seem to be starting from the idea of the etatistically understood socalled neo-nationalism.
