Summary/Abstract: The composer and music theorist Thomas Morley presented the composition theory of his time in an understandable and vivid way in his treatise “A Plaine and Easie Introduction into Practicall Musicke” (published in London in 1597). This article examines both the scientific and didactic value of this treatise. In addition to discussing the general characteristics of the treatise, the article also examines Morley's treatment of individual subject areas, including the clause disposition and the question of whether Morley's statements about it can be interpreted as a turn from modal to tonal thinking: In this context, one Answer given to Martina Rebmann's criticism of Carl Dahlhaus' interpretation of Morley's teachings.
