Summary/Abstract: One can look at the development process in the area of the microstructure of the composition in Novák's chamber music works, i.e. the actual motivic-thematic work. In an effort to avoid the romantic cliché based on extensive thematic structures, Novák approached the compositional method of Johannes Brahms, who was closely related to Novák's rational thinking. Even before the Second Schönberg Quartet was created, Novák created the Balladesque Trio, in which individual parts of the sonata cycle run through at the level of an uninterrupted movement and in which the sonata exposition even has characteristics of an independent sonata movement.
