Summary/Abstract: The importance of the writing led to the conclusion (otherwise erroneous, given that this importance relates mainly to the early period, that is to the chronicle written in the 13th century, and not the one belonging to the 11th century) that “il tema delle origini, contenuta nella Cronaca di Giovanni entro limiti del tutto ragionevoli, abbia rotto gli argini, assorbendo completamente per circa due secoli le energie dei cronisti locali” 342, more precisely to the anonymous author of Historia Ducum Venetorum, and that the model imposed by Diacono would have no immediate successor343 . Now, by suggesting that the excerpt on the origins of the city dates from the 13th century, we can notice how the difference in time between this writing and the subsequent chronicles is not as wide.
