Summary/Abstract: The present study delves into the endeavors of the Consultative Heraldic Commission – the unique heraldic authority of unified Romania – through the lens of both Romanian and Hungarian or German language press. Over the course of almost two decades, the Commission’s efforts have yielded an outstanding civic and territorial armorial, as well as academic and ecclesiastical ones. Echoes concerning the Commission’s work began to reverberate in the written press from the early ’20s, culminating in 1928 with the adoption of coats-of-arms for all 71 counties of the Kingdom of Romania, an heraldic event of unparalleled journalistic reach in that era. The subsequent years of the ’30s witnessed the approval of various municipal and city arms, along with the adoptions of ecclesiastical or academic arms. Lastly, in 1938, the Commission attained the approval of the heraldic symbols for the ten lands instituted by King Carol II, marking the Commission’s ultimate heraldic labor. One could affirm that, for a country without a tradition of chancery heraldry in the medieval and modern periods, the interest in the work of the Consultative Heraldic Commission was considerable, given the extent to which it was reported in the press of the time.
