Summary/Abstract: The Albanian search for identity is both national destiny and positioning in a society of political, economical, social, cultural, and mental changes. The stage of maturation of the reform process is put to the test in order to gain new identity features from the participation in the European integration in addition to the own roots of identity. Beyond the borders of the ..mother country“, the Albanian question in its diverse accentuation remains one of the key questions for peaceful solutions on the Balkans. It is important to reduce the actors‘ passed-down prejudices and to reach from a multi-ethnical parallel existence to a peaceful coexistence. Whether or not Albania can take on the function of a intermediary and very demanded partner for compromise and cooperation mainly depends on her internal stability, which has been affected by several crisis and backslides in the past. The majority of the Albanians has decided for an approach to the European standards and values and urges to be integrated into the Euro-Atlantic structures. External support and assistance remain inescapable for the near future. This includes to devote the necessary attention to the actors’ reachability.
