Summary/Abstract: The article reflects on the possible dystopian world described by Cormac McCarthy. In his novel "The Road", McCarthy employs a cinematic way of framing images and an interesting method of using filters and screens. How and by means of what objects do the characters experience the views of an agonal world? Is there still room for a sensual relationship between man and (residual) nature? What role do traces play? Further is-sues examined include defining the function of monochromatic colour schemes in the novel and references to charcoal and coffee painting techniques.
