Summary/Abstract: In "The Swarm" Frank Schätzing presents a convincing vision of a future in which nature turns against man: an unknown species, a single-celled creature with the ability to control the minds of other animals, discovered as a result of drilling, but living on our planet since the dawn of time, will fight to take over the Earth, which means the potential annihilation of humanity. The aim of this article is to demonstrate that Frank Schätzing’s novel has a number of features characteristic of “enlightened catastrophism” (Jean-Pierre Dupuy).
