Summary/Abstract: The research of the culture of housing in Mačva was conducted as one of the topics within the broader ethnological and anthropological research of the population of Mačva, which is realized by the Ethnographic Museum in Belgrade. In the first part of the paper, I presented the basic theoretical postulates of the research. These are, on the one hand, insights into the concept of vernacular architecture, and, on the other hand, theoretical understandings of the human organization of space. The research of housing culture is, therefore, focused primarily on the experience, arrangement and use of housing, where that space is understood in the rural paradigm, i.e. not as limited by the habitat (house) itself. After the primary ethnographic research, I presented the most general conclusions so the intention was for this work to be both a direction and an inspiration to other researchers before I give a final anthropological analysis of the culture of housing in Mačva.
