Summary/Abstract: The history of the elites, a subject treted with precaution by the communist historiography, has come back into the attention of the researchers in Romania after 1989. Some new directions of research have been developed consequently: the history of the nobiliary elites (owing to Ioan Drăgan, Adrian Rusu, Viorel Achim, Ioan Aurel Pop, Constantin Feneşan etc.) and the history of the intellectual elites (Tonk Sándor, Szabó Miklos, Elena Siupiur, C. Sigmirean etc.) or monographic researches dedicated to to a distinctive period in the history of the Romanians, such as the ones achieved by Remus Câmpean for the 18th century. We also mention the efforts of reconstructing the history of the elites belonging to different social categories, as for example Vasile Dobrescu’s study of the Romanian banking elites in Transylvania. The history of the elites, with all its remarkable recent achievements, remains a partially exploited subject, which is the target of subsequent researches.
