Summary/Abstract: The author contributes the discussion on Florin Curta's "The Making of the Slavs" with some observations on the notions of "Slavs" and "Bulgars" in the Byzantine and early Bulgarian sources (in Greek and in Slavonic). He assumes that the notions of Slavs in the early Bulgar and Cyrillo-Methodic written tradition in general do not contradict Curta's hypothesis on the Byzantine origin of the initial Slavic discourse.
