After a Year : Report on the State of the Greek Greek-Catholic Church sent to the Apostolic Nunciature in Bucharest

Summary/Abstract: The present article analyzesthree documents from the Apostolic Archives in Vatican in the RomanianNunciature files, a document that was sent to cardinal Eug ene Tisserant in1949, at that time he head ing the Congregation for the Oriental Churches by theRegent of the Romanian Nunciature in Bucharest Gerald O O’Hara to accountfor the situation of the Greek Catholic Church in Romania, one year after theforced union with the Romanian Orthodox Church and the dismemberment ofthe church. The document is a report in letter form sent by Gheorghe D ănilăănilă, the substitute vicar for Alba Iulia and F ăgăraș Archbishopric after theimprisonment of Metropolitan Ioan Suciu. The la st documen t is a collection ofquestioquestions coming from Transylvanian Greek Catholic clergy demandingclarification from the Nunciature regarding the issue of clergymen returning tothe Catholic faith after the forced union with the Orthodox Church.
