Summary/Abstract: The concept "money" is a fragment of the world picture that occupies one of the main positions in the system of national values. Money is an integral part and necessary component of our life. Of particular interest is the attitude of a person to money, changing in the process of socio- economic changes taking place in society. Therefore, one of the topical problems of linguists is the study of ways of denoting and identifying the features of this conceptual area through the prism of linguistic means. In this article a sememic comparative analysis of stable polylexical units in English and Romanian languages is carried out within three functional-semantic micro- fields “Types of Money”, ‘Wealth” and “Poverty”. By stable polylexical units (USPs) we understand combinations of words of denotative character with determinacy of connections, as well as with restriction in the choice of variables and in the predictability of components. For our research, we have selected 100 stable polilexical units from dictionaries, studied them with the respect to such important aspects as meaning, structure and variation and provided several examples of these word combinations used in literary and publicistic texts. The comparison of functional semantic field „money” with USPs in both languages makes us understand the way English and Romanian speakers feel about money. For our contribution, we have consulted the works of different linguists who carried out the research on the theme, such scholars as V. Arkhangelsky, A. Cowie, V. Evans, I. Galperin, Ch. Morris, T. Lapaeva, G. Popa, A. Savin Zgardan, V. Vinogradov.
