Summary/Abstract: This article deals with the emergence of the six-string Spanish guitar in Polish territories around the turn of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Previous studies devoted to the earliest history of that instrument in Poland and its gradual po- pularisation are discussed. The various currently available sources are presented in chro- nological order and used as the basis for a new periodisation of the spread of different types of guitars (English, five- and six-string Spanish) in Polish lands.
