Summary/Abstract: If we relate to everyday life, we identify failure as the consequence of an endeavour. It is the result that people either choose to refuse – and seek to exchange it for another – or indulge. The 20th century brings to the Romanian literary area new perspectives on failure. This study examines the concern for the phenomenon of failure that the young writers of that period had. At the same time, this paper illustrates Emil Botta's journey from that group of students he was part of until his debut with the volume “Dark April” and his literary activity. We note that the lazy and the loser are two typologies frequently discussed in the interwar literature and provoke numerous reflections on the phenomenon of failure. But this becomes devoid of negative connotation, since failure no longer represents an impasse of certain moments in life, but it is perceived as a human condition. Failure is not only assumed, but received with joy, becoming a state that facilitates the creative process.
